I AM SMALL

Je suis petite — Qin Leng — Hardcover book — 19 x 21.6 cm — 48 pages — January 2018 — CAN$19.95

Mimi doesn’t think being short – actually, the shortest – is a laughing matter. All she can see is the downside: at home, at school, around the neighbourhood… People try to point out the advantages of her height. But no one really gets it. Although, come to think of it, there are some perks to awaiting a growth spurt!

Qin Leng was born in Shanghai. After living in France, she moved to Montreal. She now lives in Toronto with her husband and her son and works as a designer and illustrator. After studying animation at Concordia University, she illustrated her first picture book in 2009. She has since created numerous works that were published in Canada and around the world. Many of her books and short films have been nominated. Hana Hashimoto, Sixth Violin (Kids Can Press, 2014), written by Chieri Uegaki, was a finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award and received, among others, the APALA Award for best picture book.

“Exquisite and sweet!”

– Catherine Trudeau – Radio-Canada/Plus on est de fous, plus on lit

“A wonderful book, for its delicate illustrations, which are between ink and watercolour. I particularly like the illustrations done by Mimi, a child with short hair and baggy pants. It is the sort of representation of a little girl we rarely see in children’s books.”

– Stéphanie Pelletier – Les p’tits mots-dits
